Responsible Gambling — Help, Limits and Self-Protection
Scope and Important Notice
Gambling can be an enjoyable pastime — when practiced in moderation and with a clear head. This page provides important information on warning signs, protective measures and support services. Gambling addiction is a recognized condition that can affect anyone. Recognizing it early and acting on it is what matters most.
This page is deliberately different from the rest of this website: no rankings, no operators, no partner links, no commercial CTAs. It exists solely for player protection, self-awareness and concrete help — without advertising and without hidden interests.
A note from Lasse Petersen's own practice: anyone actively trading crypto markets every day knows the principle of negative expected value very well. Gambling works on the same mathematical principle — the house edge ensures the bank always wins in the long run. Gambling is entertainment with a price tag, not an income model.
Who This Page Is For
Anyone who gambles or is thinking about it — and especially anyone who winces inwardly at any of the following:
- You gamble with money set aside for rent, bills or other necessary expenses
- You chase losses, playing on to win back what you lost
- You hide your bets or your gambling behavior from family or friends
- You use gambling as an escape from stress, worry or negative feelings
- You borrow money in order to be able to gamble
- You feel unable to stop once you've started
Free, anonymous help: check-dein-spiel.de (BZgA), phone 0800 1 37 27 00 — if you recognize yourself in any of these points, take the self-test first.
What Is Gambling Addiction?
Pathological gambling (gambling addiction) is classified in the ICD-10 as a mental disorder. Those affected increasingly lose control over their gambling behavior even as negative consequences — financial, social and health-related — become obvious. The following warning signs can indicate problematic gambling behavior:
- You gamble to win back losses ("chasing losses") rather than for fun
- You hide your gambling behavior from family, friends or colleagues
- You neglect work or family obligations because of gambling
- You use gambling as an escape from stress, worry, loneliness or negative feelings
- You borrow money, sell belongings, or take out loans in order to gamble
- You play longer or stake higher amounts than originally planned
- You feel restless or irritable when you can't gamble
- You have already tried, unsuccessfully, more than once to cut back or stop
- Gambling occupies your thoughts even when you're not playing
- Your financial, social or health problems are getting worse because of gambling
If you recognize several of these points in yourself, please seek professional help right away. This is not a sign of weakness — gambling addiction is a condition that can be treated.
Protective Measures at Crypto Casinos
Reputable online casinos offer a range of player-protection tools. You can activate these in the account settings of the respective operator — often instantly and without any waiting period:
Deposit Limits
Set a maximum daily, weekly or monthly amount you're allowed to deposit. Raising the limit usually only takes effect after a cool-down period (24 to 72 hours), while lowering it applies immediately. Use this asymmetry as protection.
Loss Limits
Cap your maximum loss over a defined period. Once the limit is reached, further deposits or bets are automatically blocked.
Time Limits and Reminders
Many casinos let you cap session length or set a reminder after a certain amount of playing time ("reality check"). Activate this feature if you tend to lose track of time.
Temporary Self-Exclusion
A temporary self-exclusion locks your account for a fixed period — from 24 hours up to several months. During this time you cannot log in or make deposits. To set up a temporary exclusion, contact the operator's customer support.
Permanent Self-Exclusion
A permanent account closure is irreversible. The account is closed, any balance is paid out, and you cannot open a new account with the same operator. This option is recommended if you want to stop gambling for good.
Cooling-Off Period
A cooling-off period pauses your account for a short time (e.g. 48 hours) without locking it. Suitable as a first step if you notice you need a break.
How to request these tools: log into your casino account and look in the settings for "Responsible Gambling," "Player Protection" or "Limits." Alternatively, contact live support directly — reputable operators are obliged to help you immediately.
Self-Exclusion — The OASIS Blocking System
OASIS stands for Online-Abgleich von Spielerdaten zur Identifizierung von Spielern ("online matching of player data for player identification"). It is a central player self-exclusion system operated by the Hessian authority for gambling regulation (HZD, on behalf of the state of Hesse).
Through OASIS, players can exclude themselves from all GGL-licensed gambling operators in Germany — that is, from every online casino, sports-betting provider and land-based arcade that operates legally in Germany and is connected to the system. Once entered, an OASIS block applies network-wide and cannot be lifted at short notice.
Important: Most of the crypto casinos featured on cryptocasino-germany.com are not GGL-licensed and are therefore not connected to OASIS. OASIS does not apply in these cases. For comprehensive protection, we additionally recommend self-exclusion directly with the relevant operator, plus the use of blocking software (e.g. Gamban).

Self-Help Tips for Responsible Gambling
Anyone who wants to enjoy gambling as a leisure activity should stick to the following principles:
- Set a budget before you play — and stick to it. Only gamble with money you can afford to lose.
- Never gamble with borrowed money or funds set aside for rent, groceries or other necessary expenses.
- Take regular breaks — gambling can be intoxicating. Get up, drink some water, step away from the screen.
- Never gamble under the influence of alcohol or other substances that impair your judgment.
- Keep an eye on the time — activate time limits in the casino's settings or set an alarm.
- Don't gamble to numb bad feelings — stress, sadness or loneliness are not good reasons to play.
- Treat winnings as a bonus, not as income — gambling is entertainment, not a business model.
Note on the Legal Situation
The crypto casinos featured on cryptocasino-germany.com generally do not hold a licence from the German Joint Gambling Authority (GGL). They typically operate under licences from other jurisdictions (e.g. Curaçao, Malta, Gibraltar).
Use of these offers by players in Germany sits in a legal grey area. The Interstate Treaty on Gambling (GlüStV 2021) is aimed primarily at operators, not players — nevertheless, we recommend you inform yourself about the legal situation that applies where you live and, in case of doubt, use operators licensed in Germany.
Crypto casinos without a GGL licence are not connected to the OASIS blocking system or other state player-protection mechanisms. Players carry an increased degree of personal responsibility in this area.
Limits, Exclusions and Contact
This website is an editorial information service, not a gambling operator: we do not accept stakes, do not manage accounts, and cannot request or administer exclusions. For account locks and deposit limits, contact the relevant operator directly; for OASIS self-exclusion, contact the responsible authority.
